About
Me
I'm Sarah Severson, a small business website developer and the owner and operator of Deigja [DAY-yuh] Development, based in Minneapolis. As a freelance web developer, I help local and small business owners build websites that actually work for them — not just visually, but operationally. Before moving to Minneapolis in 2014, I spent ten years in the culinary industry, working my way up to Executive Head Chef.
I eventually stepped away from the kitchen to pursue a more stable technical career, and I'm currently a student set to graduate at the end of 2026. Because I'm actively building my portfolio and gaining experience, I'm able to offer high-level design and development work — the kind you'd expect from an established small business website developer — at rates that are much more reasonable than the standard market average.
My background outside of tech shapes how I work just as much as my technical training does. Years of running a busy kitchen taught me how to manage pressure, keep a team organized, and deliver consistent results under real deadlines — skills that translate directly into how I manage client projects today. I bring that same discipline to every web development project I take on, whether it's a full site build, a redesign, or ongoing support for a business that's outgrown its current setup.
The name Deigja — Old Norse for "Dough Maker" — is a nod to my Nordic heritage and my background as a chef. When I'm not at my desk or in the kitchen, I'm usually at my cabin or camper spending time with my family. If you're curious about web development best practices more broadly, I recommend taking a look at Smashing Magazine — it's one of the resources I follow to stay current.

My Approach
I don't just build websites — I help businesses use technology more effectively.
I look at the whole picture — not just the front-end, but how your digital tools connect, communicate, and support your day-to-day operations.
I focus on building things that are functional, scalable, and easy for you to manage — because the best solution is one you can actually use.
I translate technical decisions into plain language, so you always understand what's being built and why — no jargon, no guesswork.
I build for where you're going, not just where you are. Scalable systems and clean code mean your investment grows with your business.
